Ci Bai (Taiwan juniper root or fruit)

The drug is the dried root of Juniperus formosana Hayata (family (Cupressaceae), growing on mountain slopes, under woods, distributed in the southern part of Shaanxi and Gansu.

Constituents

The timber contains α-cedrol, β-sitosterol, crypto japonol,sugiol, 7-α-methoxy deoxycryp-tojaponol, α-thujaplicin, isocedrolic acid, emodin, detetrahydroconidendrin, etc.

Property

Bitter, cold.

Actions

Clear heat and remove toxicity, dry dampness and relieve itching.

Indications

Measles, persistent fever, externally used for scabies, ringworm.

Dosage and Administrations

Decoct 6~15 g. Proper dosage is for external application, decocted for washing.
