Bai Bu Huan Yang Dan

Name

Bai Bu Huan Yang Dan (hooded orchid, Neottianthe cucullata).

Source

The dried or fresh whole plant of Neottianthe cucullata (L.) Schltr., family Orchidaceae. Grows in or near woodland in northeast and north China, and in Shaanxi, Xinjiang, Anhui, Henan, Sichuan and Yunnan.

Nature and action

Sweet, neutral; enters heart and liver. Moves blood, disperses stasis, and is used in folk formulas for fracture and tissue repair. Listed for trauma, fracture, and loss of consciousness after injury — unconsciousness is emergency care, not an orchid powder.

Dose

Taken as powder, 1.5–3 g each time. External: a suitable amount, pounded.

When to see a doctor: herbal care suits mild, everyday issues. For worsening, severe, or sudden symptoms — or if you are pregnant, on medication, or treating a child — consult a licensed practitioner first.
