Zhi Hou Po (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis Preparata) 6 g,Huang Lian (Rhizoma Coptidis stir-fried with juice of ginger) 3 g,Shi Chang Pu (Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii) 3 g,Zhi Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparata) 3 g,Xiang Chi (Stir-fried Semen Sojae Preparatum) 9 g,Jiao Shan Zhi (Fructus Gardeniae Preparata) 9 g,Lu Gen (Rhizoma Phragmitis) 60 g.

Explanation

Hou Po: One of the principal drugs, being bitter and pungent in flavor and warm in nature, promoting the circulation of Qi, resolving dampness.

Huang Lian: The other principal drug, being bitter in flavor and cold in nature, clearing away heat, drying dampness.

Shan Zhi and Dou Chi: Clearing away stagnated heat in the chest and epigastric region.

Indications

Syndrome of failure of descending of the stomach-Qi and failure of ascending of the spleen-Qi both due to the retention of damp-heat, marked by sudden vomiting and diarrhea in cholera morbus, fullness in the chest and epigastrium, scanty deep-colored urine, and yellowish greasy tongue coating; including such diseases with the above symptoms as typhoid fever and acute gastroenteritis.
