A short page on purpose: the questions people actually type about mugwort, answered without padding. Follow the links for the long versions.

What does TCM use mugwort for?

Classically, it warms the channels and stops cold-type menstrual pain.

Does it actually work?

One of the better-studied areas: one preliminary study showed that a topical lotion containing mugwort and menthol relieved itching associated with hypertrophic scars.

How do I take it at home?

Mostly used as moxa or in external washes and foot baths; internally only short courses.

Who should not take it?

In traditional terms: internal use is professional territory; thujone content limits long internal courses. In modern terms: pregnant or nursing women, anyone on regular medication, and people with chronic conditions should ask a professional first.

Is it safe long-term?

On safety: little is known about whether it’s safe to use mugwort while breastfeeding.

Long-term continuous use of any concentrated herb is a question for a practitioner, not a label. Food-level tea is a different, gentler story.

Start low, watch how your body responds, and give it a fair run of a few weeks before judging. If something feels wrong, stop; that feedback matters more than any article.
