Eating for Period Pain: A Chinese Dietetics Guide
In Chinese dietetics, food is the first prescription and herbs are the second. For period pain, the kitchen changes come before anything from the pharmacy.
Foods that help
Warm, cooked food all month; ginger brown sugar tea from three days before the period; nothing iced
The daily rhythm matters as much as the menu
Keep the lower abdomen and feet warm, moxa on the abdomen for cold patterns, gentle walking during the period
Why cooked beats raw in this pattern
The spleen in TCM likes warmth and dislikes cold and damp. Raw, chilled and iced food asks the digestion to spend energy warming things up first, which is the opposite of what a weak pattern needs. Soups, congee and stews are not comfort choices here, they are the delivery system.
Start low, watch how your body responds, and give it a fair run of a few weeks before judging. If something feels wrong, stop; that feedback matters more than any article.
