A short page on purpose: the questions people actually type about turmeric, answered without padding. Follow the links for the long versions.

What does TCM use turmeric for?

Classically, it invigorates the channels for aching shoulders and arms.

Does it actually work?

Clinical work has focused here: there isn’t enough evidence to definitively conclude whether oral turmeric or curcumin has beneficial effects on other health conditions.

How do I take it at home?

3 to 10 grams in decoction, or the powder in golden milk, curries and rice dishes.

Who should not take it?

In traditional terms: avoid with bile duct obstruction and gallstones, before surgery, and in high doses during pregnancy. In modern terms: pregnant or nursing women, anyone on regular medication, and people with chronic conditions should ask a professional first.

Is it safe long-term?

The use of turmeric supplements during pregnancy may be unsafe.

Long-term continuous use of any concentrated herb is a question for a practitioner, not a label. Food-level tea is a different, gentler story.

Consistency beats dose. A modest amount taken regularly usually does more than a heroic amount taken twice.
