Xiong Xiang (Xiongxiang)
Location
In the 3rd intercostal space, 6 cun lateral to the mid-sternal line.
Needling
- Slanted insertion, 0.5-0.8 cun.
- Caution: avoid deep insertion. Perpendicular insertion carries a substantial risk of pneumothorax.
- Transverse-oblique insertion along the intercostal space, 0.5-1 cun.
- Moxibustion is applicable.
Actions
- Regulates qi
- Descends qi
- Unbinds the chest
Indications
- Intercostal neuralgia
- Inability to turn over when lying down
- Coughing
- Fullness in the chest and lateral costal region, extending to the back
- Shortness of breath
